Small containers

Nach der Publikation von Florian Westphal "Die Holzfunde von Haithabu" (2006) werden solche Gegenstände der Objektgruppe 912 Kleinstgefäße zugeordnet. 

According to Florian Westphal's publication "The Wood Finds from Haithabu" (2006), such objects are assigned to the object group 912 small vessels.

Eine museumsnahe Rekonstruktion des wikingerzeitlichen Kästchens mit Schiebedeckel nach einem Fund in Roswinkel, Gemeinde Emmen, Provinz Drente, Niederlande, datiert auf das 9. Jahrhundert. Gesamtlänge ca. 10,5cm, Breite 3,7cm, 3,0cm Höhe. Wie das Original aus Walnuss, geschnitten, von Hand ausgestemmt und geölt. Führungsschienen aus Messing.

Basierend auf den Angaben des Buches "Nederlandsche oudheden van de vroegste tijden tot op Karel den Groote" von Willem Pleyte, Texte von 1877, Tafeln von 1881. 

A museum-like reconstruction of a Viking Age box with a sliding lid after a find in Roswinkel, municipality of Emmen, province of Drente, Netherlands, dates to the 9th century. Total length approx. 10.5 cm, width 3.7 cm, height 3.0 cm. Like the original made of walnut, cut, chiseled and oiled. Brass guide rails.

Based on the information in the book "Nederlandsche oudheden van de vroegste tijden tot op Karel den Groote" by Willem Pleyte, texts from 1877, plates from 1881.

Zwei belegnahe Interpretationen mit unterschiedlichen Schiebedeckeln eines wannenförmigen Behältnis für kleinere Gegenstände nach einem Fund im Siedlungsgebiet von Haithabu HbS 912.001, welches der Objektgruppe der "Kleinstgefäße" zugeordnet wird, mit den Abmessungen Länge ca. 106mm, Breite ca. 33mm, Höhe ca. 20 mm geschnitten und geölt, datiert auf die skandinavische Eisenzeit bzw. die Siedlungzeit von Haithabu.

Nähere Datierung nicht erfolgt. Das Holz das Originals ist unbestimmt. Interpretiert wurde dieser Behälter als Verwahrbehälter für Nadeln, da ein Großteil der in Haithabu gefundenen Nadeln dort hineinpassen würden.

Two interpretations with different sliding lids of a tub-shaped container for smaller objects based on a find in the settlement area of Haithabu HbS 912.001, which is assigned to the object group of "small vessels", with the dimensions length approx. 106mm, width approx. 33mm, height approx. 20 mm cut and oiled, dated to the Scandinavian Iron Age or the settlement period of Haithabu.

No further dating has been carried out. The wood of the original is indeterminate. This container was interpreted as a storage container for needles, as the majority of the needles found in Haithabu would fit there.

Belegnahe Interpretation eines Kästchens nach einem Fund im Hafengebiet von Haithabu HbH 912.001, welches der Objektgruppe der Kleinstgefäße zugeordnet wird mit den Maßen ca. 54mm x 17mm x 17 mm (LxBxH), datiert auf die Siedlungszeit von Haithabu. Das Holz das Originals ist unbestimmt, meine Reko ist aus Eiche, geschnitten und geölt. Der Verwendungszweck dieses Behältnis muß wohl offen bleiben. Das Innenmaß ist ca. 31mm x 10mm x 17mm (LxBxT).

Interpretation of a box close to the evidence after a find in the port area of Haithabu HbH 912.001, which is assigned to the object group of the smallest vessels with the dimensions approx. 54mm x 17mm x 17 mm (LxWxH), dated to the settlement period of Hedeby. The wood of the original is indefinite, my Reko is made of oak, cut and oiled. The purpose of this container must remain open. The inside dimensions are approx. 31mm x 10mm x 17mm (LxWxD).

Belegnahe Interpretation eines Kästchens mit Schiebedeckel 13-17-1576 mit drei Innenfächern nach einem Fund in der Siedlung von Novgorod, datiert auf das 13. Jahrhundert. 

Gesamtlänge ca. 15,5cm, Breite 4,8cm, 3,8cm Höhe. Schiebedeckel sowie Messing-Umreifung interpretiert, Umsetzung aus Eiche, geschnitten und geölt.

Total length approx. 15.5 cm, width 4.8 cm, height 3.8 cm. Sliding lid and brass strapping interpreted, implementation made of oak, cut and oiled.
